WHY ARE TATTOOS SO EXPENSIVE?

You Ever Wonder Why Tattoos Are So Expensive?
1: They are hand made (not many things are these days)

2: The amount of proper study to execute a “good” tattoo with good artwork takes almost or more than what it takes to acquire a college degree. I believe I have personally studied more hours than what it takes to get a doctorate.

3: We as Tattooers do not have retirement plans and do not work by salary. If we don’t work, we don’t eat.

4: Some drawings for tattoos, sleeves and such can take up to 20 hours of research and development.

5: in a proper up to health code shop we as Tattooers are putting our lives at risk and are susceptible to blood borne pathogens and risk sickness.

6: Here’s one I think is most overlooked. We are altering your body forever. The same as surgery. Think about that. The confidence and experience involved to take on that challenge is extreme.

7: These are just a few. There are many more and this is just food for thought. This is not meant as a complaint or saying other jobs are not more difficult. Just sharing a different perspective of thought and there will always be those who disagree. And remember. There is no such thing as an Inkmaster. Or a master of any craft for that matter. So do your research. Value your artist. Value your tattoo experience and most importantly, Value yourself. I still believe there is nothing wrong with less expensive clunkier tattoos. Some of those are my fav still and more because of the memory.

We only have one body. Choose wisely. Love and kindness. JCD

What does The Matrix and Jason Clay Dunn Have in Common?

JCD Fun Fact: Several years ago I worked for a shop in San Pedro, CA. I worked with Ethan Morgan (former owner) from So Cal Tattoo.

One day a beautiful lady walked in and asked me for a squigly tribal like design off a sheet of flash. We actually used to do flash back in those days. I believe it was around 1999.

Turns out this beauty is the daughter to the late great singer, Marvin Gaye. Her name: Nona Gaye. We got along great. Did the small tattoo and off she went into the world.

Fast forward several years to 2003. It was the opening day to The Matrix Reloaded. Me being the nerd I am guranteed me an earlybird seat.  Low and behold to my surprise, I see a tattoo that is about 6 foot high on the screen.  It took me a minute to remember doing that tattoo out of hundreds in the past. It was Nona playing the part of Zee in the movie. I wish she'd let me give that thing a fix up after all these years.

So there you have it. A JCD Fun Fact and life goes on. ;)
